Litigation Associate

About the Opportunity
Duggan Shadwick Doerr & Kurlbaum, LLC is seeking a motivated litigation associate with 1–3 years of litigation experience to join its growing practice. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney looking to develop courtroom experience, work directly with clients, and manage a diverse litigation caseload in a collaborative and professional environment.
Responsibilities
- Handle all phases of civil litigation from case inception through resolution.
- Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, legal memoranda, and other litigation documents.
- Conduct legal research and prepare written analyses.
- Take and defend depositions and participate in hearings, mediations, and settlement conferences.
- Assist with trial preparation and participate in trials as appropriate.
- Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and court personnel.
- Manage case files and meet litigation deadlines while maintaining high-quality work product.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Active license and good standing with both the Kansas Bar and Missouri Bar.
- One to three years of civil litigation experience.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Strong oral advocacy and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple matters independently while working collaboratively with attorneys and staff.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Experience
- Motion practice, depositions, and court appearances
- Trial preparation
- Kansas and Missouri state courts and federal court procedures
