This interactive panel is driven by questions submitted by members of the Johnson County Bar Association and focuses on issues that matter most to practicing attorneys.

When Worlds Collide: Bankruptcy for the General Practitioner
Hon. Judge Berger, United States Bankruptcy Court

A practical overview of bankruptcy law for general practitioners, including how bankruptcy cases begin, the types of bankruptcy, and the effects on civil and family law matters. Emphasis is placed on avoiding contempt sanctions and void judgments.

2:05 p.m. – Access to Justice Presentation
Justice Ventures International (JVI)

A presentation on JVI’s work securing justice for victims of human trafficking and other injustices through legal advocacy, attorney training, and collaboration with nonprofits, businesses, and government agencies in the U.S. and abroad.

3:10 p.m. – Plenary Session: KALAP 101
Lisa Williams-McCallum

An overview of the Kansas Lawyers Assistance Program, including its confidential support services for attorneys, judges, and law students. This session discusses Supreme Court Rule 233, common issues faced by participants, collaboration with the Disciplinary Administrator’s Office, and volunteer opportunities.
